Speaker 1:

Hi, this is Whitney and you're listening to Exploring Peace Meditations. Today's short breathwork meditation is designed to help you slow down, find balance, be intentional and connect with yourself and your God in this present moment. Let's begin by finding a comfortable seated posture, either on a chair or on the floor, with your spine straight and your shoulders relaxed. Allow your hands to rest on your lap or knees I like palms up. Gently close your eyes. Start by taking a full inhalation through your nose, allowing the breath to fill your lungs, travel to your diaphragm. You'll notice your chest and your abdomen expand as you breathe in as you exhale. Slowly release the breath out of your mouth or your nose. Let go of any tension or stress that you may be holding onto in this moment and feel your body soften with each breath. Do this pattern of inhaling through your nose and exhaling fully and completely and without judgment. Just notice your breath. Where do you feel your breath? Do you notice a cool sensation? Do you notice warmth as you exhale? Without any judgment, simply observe your breath right now. You'll bring in tension to slowing down as we begin to lengthen our exhalation.

Speaker 1:

So for these next few moments of breath work, I invite you to breathe in and out through your nose. On your inhalation, we will count to four and on the exhalation, you'll count to five or six, any number that is longer than your inhale. I'll start with an example and then we'll fade into the quiet, inviting you to simply follow the count of your breath. This is a really practical, simple, easy tool to use anytime, anywhere, to slow down, be present and breathe. Let's begin Inhale one, two, three, four. Exhale one, two, three, four, five, six. Inhale one, two, three, four. Exhale one, two, three, four, five, six. You inhaling and exhaling through your nose, following your own count, your own cycle of breath and lengthening your exhale to slow down and be present.

Speaker 2:

Inhale one, two, three, four. Exhale one, two, three, four.

Speaker 1:

Creator, god, thank you for this opportunity to pause, to breathe, to slow down and be reminded that you are as close as our breath. In your holy name we pray amen. Notice how you feel in this moment. Carry your breath, work your long, extended exhale and your presence with God as you go about your day. If you'd like to connect beyond these times of prayer and meditation, I'd love to hear from you. You can find me and my books at WhitneyRSimpsoncom. You can connect with our growing community that supports the podcast and is now practicing yoga and meditation together once a month online at exploringpeacecom. Until next time, may God's peace be with you.
