The Four R's of Centering Prayer

Speaker 1

Hi, this is Whitney and you're listening to Exploring Peace Meditations. I'm glad you're here. Today we'll take an opportunity to lean in to the practice of centering prayer for 15 silent minutes. That means I'll guide you into the process and we'll be quiet for 15 minutes. If this feels like a lot, go back and find a 5 or 10 minute episode to begin your day. But I encourage you, don't be intimidated. Magnificent things happen in the quiet when we're willing to lean in and notice them and remember God's invitation to be still and to know. So today, let's be still. As we begin, I'd love to offer these four simple R's of Centering Prayer. These four simple R's of Centering Prayer.

Entering 15 Minutes of Stillness

Speaker 1

They're simple reminders to resist no thought, retain no thought, react to no thoughts and return ever so gently to the sacred word God has for you today. Do you have a word you'd like to hold in the quiet? I often use the word shalom or peace. Sometimes it's as simple as breathe or spirit. Is there a word that rises up for you today that can be your sacred word? Hold that now as we begin our time of prayer? Most holy and loving God, thank you. Thank you for helping us be still today and to know that you are with us as we begin our morning. A fresh new day upon us. Let us center and be still with you, be still with you and so, when those thoughts arise, let us not hold on to them but release them and return to the quiet with you Now, take a full, deep breath and let it all out no-transcript.

Invitation to Connect Beyond the Podcast

Speaker 1

The now. Take a nice full inhale through your nose and a long exhale out your mouth. Thank you, god, for helping us return to you, to center with you and to be still with you. Be with us this day as we lean into a fresh new day, and help us return to the practice of simply being with you as we go about our day. Remind us. Remind us as we see the birds in the sky and the grass on the earth, a smile on a friend's face. Remind us that we are human beings and it is okay to stop doing and simply be with you today. It's more than okay, it's good and right, and for that we are so grateful. In your holy name we pray Amen. Thank you for exploring the gift of God's peace with me. I'd love to meet you beyond the headphones. You can find more at exploringpeacecom slash community and you can connect with me at WhitneyRSimpsoncom. Until next time, may God's peace be with you.
