Speaker 1:

Hi, this is Whitney and you're listening to Exploring Peace Meditations. Centering Prayer is an ancient practice, one that I savor and enjoy for my own times of silent meditation. I'd like to walk you through this practice today and hold space for you to simply be with God. Open yourself up to God in the quiet. Traditional Centering Prayer practices are about 20 minutes of silence. If 20 minutes feels unattainable or too far out of reach today, give yourself permission to do what feels right. As you settle in, I invite you to find a seated posture. Allow your shoulders to fall away from your ears. Reach the crown of your head toward the ceiling or the sky. Soften your breath, soften your eyes. Consider opening your hands and your lap.

Speaker 1:

Psalm 6. I open the door of my heart to you, my beloved. Enter in and fill me with your steadfast love. I open the door of my heart to you, my beloved. Enter in and fill me with your steadfast love. We're using the word open for your sacred word today.

Speaker 1:

When your mind wanders in the quiet, simply offer the word open. When thoughts or distractions enter your mind, offer this sacred word or another of your choosing, open. It's normal to be taken into thoughts, distractions, the world. Offer the sacred word. Open, come back to your breath, to your posture, to the place you're in. Use your sacred word as much or as little as you need as you open yourself to God in this time of quiet, jesus taught us to say our Father in Heaven, how let be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Speaker 1:

I invite you to take a moment to simply be in the quiet, receiving what you've opened yourself up to. Notice any sensations in your body, notice your breath. When you're ready, slowly open your eyes. Remain open to God today. Thank you for your trust and openness on this spiritual formation journey. It's such a gift to explore God's peace with you.
