Speaker 1:

Hi, this is Whitney and you're listening to Exploring Peace Meditations. Today's meditation is created to help you find rest in your afternoon. You can listen and practice yoga, nidra or yogic sleep any time of day. This particular meditation is created to help you find pause and rest in your afternoon. So wherever you may find yourself whether it's at a desk, in a chair, on the couch, in your bed, on the floor or lying in the grass outside take a moment and settle in. Allow yourself to be as comfortable as possible, and preferably lying down, but if it's not possible, relax in your seat. Do your best to escape any distractions by placing your phone on silence and letting go just for a little while, as you are able. Begin to soften and close your eyes. Luke 12, 27 in the common English Bible Notice how the lilies grow.

Speaker 1:

They don't wear themselves out with work and they don't spin cloth. But I say to you that even Solomon and all his splendor wasn't dressed like one of these. As we enter into this time of purposeful pause, let us ponder the lilies and the field, how they find their beauty, without toil, without striving, without performance, without trying too hard, and let us too find stillness and rest and peace today. Take a deep breath in filling your lungs completely, expanding your diaphragm fully, and exhale slowly. Repeat this full inhalation and long exhalation several times.

Speaker 1:

In yoga nidra, we practice a rotation of consciousness. I will guide you through various parts of the body. Listen and follow my voice. As you hear a body part named, bring your awareness to that part of you. We'll take a breath in as you bring awareness to that body part and then exhale as you release any tension. You may find it helpful to mentally repeat the name of the body part to stay connected and conscious as you listen. It's not necessary, though, simply breathe. Allow your awareness to travel to each part of your body. Follow the sound of my voice and let us begin.

Speaker 1:

Continue with this pattern. Continue with this pattern. Consider the lilies how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. Creator, god, we thank you for a moment to pause and rest and be to stop our spinning. And just as those lilies find their beauty without toil, may we find peace and rest today in your care. Bless us with the strength to continue into our days, rested, refreshed, hopeful, with an open heart and a peaceful mind. In your name we pray. Allow yourself to take a few deep breaths, gently bringing your awareness back to your physical surroundings. When you're ready, you can open your eyes and slowly press up to seated. If you're reclined, may you carry this sense of restfulness and peace with you as you continue your day. God deeply cares about you and how you're growing.
